Capacitive Voltage Detecting Systems

Capacitive Voltage Detecting System (VDS)

Capacitive Voltage Detecting Systems (VDS)

Voltage detector and detecting systems serve the examination of the state “voltage present” or “voltage not present”. Here are used according to DIN VDE 0682 part 415 and IEC 61243-5 high (HR) and low resistance (LRM) capacitive voltage detecting systems. These are used in MV switchgears, on electrical installations or jobs working under voltage.

The extensive VDS product range of Georg Jordan includes:

  • LRM devices for voltage indication, integrated systems, without / with remote monitoring (KVDS, CAVIN, …)
  • Interfacesplugable for voltage indication (HR / LRM)
  • Capacitive voltage detectors and interface tester(KSP HR 2 and KSP LRM 2)
  • Capacitive insulators or coupling electrodes(TSK …, KKE, …)
  • System accessoriessuch as coaxial connection lines, contact cable (AK4),

Integrated VDS

Capacitive voltage detecting system KVDS (LRM) for medium voltage

  • Check absence of voltage – three phase
  • Free of maintenance. The device performs a permanent online insulation measuring.
  • Inherent safety: To test for absence of voltage no external test device is required. Integrated display function test independent auxiliary voltage
  • No battery required: For voltage detecting and self-test no external power supply or battery is required
  • Integrated continuous three phase voltage indication (LC-Display)
  • Design: integrated, for indoor use (IP 54)

Capacitive voltage detecting system CAVIN (LRM) for medium voltage

  • Check absence of voltage – three phase
  • Additional relay contacts: For remote monitoring of voltage condition two relay contacts are integrated. The relays are driven by auxiliary voltage.
  • Free of maintenance. The device performs a permanent online insulation measuring.   Inherent safety: To test for absence of voltage no external test device is required. Integrated display function test independent auxiliary voltage.
  • No battery required: For voltage detecting and self-test no external power supply or battery is required.
  • Integrated continuous three phase voltage indication (LC-Display)
  • Additionally, two LEDs show the actual relay state.
  • Design: integrated, for indoor use (IP 54)

Voltage detecting system (VDS) for high voltage

  • According to the IEC 61243-5 the system – CAVIN-3P/H – is available for high voltage

Plugable Interface – VDS

Capacitive interface HR or LRM, 3-phase

A coupling part consists of:

  • 3 piece –  capacitive insulator or coupling electrode;
    • Make GEORG JORDAN (e.g. TSKA 24 HK or KKE 24)
  • 3 piece –  contact cable (AK)
  • 3 piece –  coaxial connecting lead (HR or LRM)
  • 1 piece  – capacitive interface (HR or LRM)
  • Optionally two versions interface / technologiesare available:
  • HR (high resistance) with socket distance 19 mm
  • LRM (low resistance) with socket distance 14 mm
  • Regarding displayand maintenance test the system-specific capacitive voltage and interface tester KSP HR 2 or KSP LRM 2 is used.

Voltage Detector – Interface Tester

Capacitive voltage detector and interface tester – HR and LRM

Applications: These capacitive voltage detectors and interface testers (KSP) for medium voltage switchgear with HR or LRM interfaces conform to IEC 61243-5.

Optionally two versions of interface tester are available:

  1. KSP HR 2(high resistance) for socket distance 19 mm
  2. KSP LRM 2(low resistance) for socket distance 14 mm

The KSP integrates a range of functions for capacitive voltage detection in the one compact instrument and is particularly easy to use.

Capacitive Insulators

Capacitive insulators (TSK) for MV-switchgears

  • Capacitive insulatorswith supporting (TSK) are used as high voltage side capacity for voltage detecting systems between the medium voltage section and the interface.
  • Capacitive insulators correspond in their measurements and physical properties to conventional DIN insulators without coupling capacitance and can therefore replace them.
  • In conjunction with the capacitances C2 of the downstream devices, the capacitance C1 of the capacitive insulator forms a capacitive voltage divider. The insulators can be combined with the connecting leads to form HR/LRM systems (high and low resistance).
  • LRM systems require additional measuring circuit capacitances C2m.

Designs:

  • Cylindrical with ribs, for indoor use
  • Dimensions in height of 130 – 410 mm
  • Diameter of  80 and 100 mm
  • Rated voltage of 12 – 45 kV

Capacitive coupling electrodes (KKE) for MV-switchgears

Coupling electrode (KKE) with coaxial connecting lead
  • Alternatively, the capacitive insulator (TSK) can be supplied without a supporting function– capacitive electrodes (KKE). These are ideal for retrofits on existing switchgear. Unlike capacitive insulators, they are not designed to withstand mechanical loading. They therefore weigh less and are generally smaller in size.

Designs:

  • Cylindrical/conical with ribs, for indoor use
  • Dimensions in height of 115 – 195 mm
  • Diameter of  75 and 80 mm
  • Rated voltage of 12 – 24 kV
